Scheduled for Sunday, the much-anticipated game will witness the Super Eagles of Nigeria facing off against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, the previous host of the 2023 AFCON tournament.
As announced by the governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, in a statement released on Saturday, the viewing center has been christened the “Solution Viewing Centre” and will commence operations at 7 pm on Sunday.
Aburime emphasized that the initiative aims to rally support for the Super Eagles and encourage community members to rally behind their team during the crucial match.
Furthermore, complimentary refreshments, including drinks and popcorn, will be provided for the attendees. The selection of Ekwueme Square as the venue for the viewing center was based on its ample space to accommodate spectators comfortably.
The statement elaborated: “In addition to the capacious viewing center situated at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, there will be ancillary attractions such as a Disc Jockey (DJ) performing live, complimentary popcorn, and beverages for all attendees, special guest appearances, among other activities.
“Soludo has consistently demonstrated his unwavering support for the Super Eagles and urges them to clinch the coveted trophy.
“Like every Nigerian, the governor recognizes that football transcends tribal, gender, or class boundaries.
“Regardless of social standing, Nigerians openly express joy and jubilation when their team performs admirably or disappoints, without any reservations.”
In the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations, the Nigerian national football team, famously known as the Super Eagles, triumphed over South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in a dramatic penalty shootout.
The clash unfolded at the Stade de la Paix in Bouake, Ivory Coast, where Victor Osimhen, who was crowned African Player of the Year, secured the crucial penalty after being fouled by Mothobi Mvala of the South African team.
