According to Nivo News, the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, confirmed on January 8 that players and officials had left for the Moroccan city, marking a significant step as the national team shifts focus entirely to the tournament after resolving earlier financial concerns.
The departure follows the official release of all outstanding match bonuses owed to the players. The Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, confirmed via her verified social media account that delays in payments had been caused by administrative and foreign exchange processing challenges. She explained that the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria, had introduced a streamlined foreign exchange procedure to ensure timely payments.
“I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses for our national team at AFCON 2025. All group-stage bonuses have now been approved and cleared, with transfers already underway,” Uzoka-Anite said.
Reports had earlier suggested that the Super Eagles considered delaying travel to Marrakech in protest of unpaid bonuses. The new arrangements, including transfers to domiciliary accounts, are expected to reflect in the players’ accounts immediately, allowing the squad to concentrate fully on their upcoming quarter-final clash scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 10.
