Dr. Mike Okiro, the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), retired, has encouraged Nigerians to maintain their optimism in the face of the prevailing political and economic challenges in the country.

Emphasizing that “There is light at the end of the tunnel,” the former IGP underscored the importance of Nigerians holding onto the nation’s distinctiveness and the strength found in its diversity.

Speaking in Abuja during the 4th anniversary and unveiling ceremony of the Nigeria FIRST Campaign/Honors Award and the celebration of Nigeria’s 63rd anniversary, Okiro, who serves as the Board Chairman of JusticeNOW International (widely known as Nigeria FIRST Foundation), stated, “Considering the current political and economic challenges in Nigeria, where many are currently losing hope and confidence in the Nigeria project, the ‘NigeriaFIRST’ Campaign is designed to foster citizens’ love for God and country.

“Our primary aim is to reshape Nigeria’s negative image and narrative for the better,” he continued.

“It is imperative for all of us to stand with Nigeria FIRST and make a strong statement on our Nation’s Independence Day, showing solidarity with His Excellency President Bola Tinubu, and the people of Nigeria and Africa, both at home and in the Diaspora, not to lose hope in the Nigeria Project despite the challenges.”

“These occasions provide us with the opportunity to express our special appreciation to those who have contributed significantly to the development of the Nigeria Project,” he added. “It is also an ideal time to express gratitude to God and individuals whose time, ideas, finances, resources, prayers, and connections have contributed to the success story of the Nigeria Project and JusticeNOW International.”

He continued, “Dear fellow compatriots, our decision to launch this National Patriotism campaign is a strategic move to encourage a renewed love for God and country. We cannot afford to continue down this path.”

“Let us place more faith in our distinctiveness and the strength derived from our diversity. There is indeed hope at the end of the tunnel,” he assured.

Okiro explained that the Nigeria FIRST Foundation is an international organization dedicated to promoting National Patriotism, Social Justice, Good Governance, and the Peaceful Coexistence of the People.

“Our primary goal is to protect the rights, freedom, and dignity of the People,” he added.

Concluding his statement, the former IG of Police said, “Given the increasing international and national unity, we are pleased to officially introduce our flagship project, the Nigeria FIRST Campaign.”

“The objective is to use our nation’s anniversary as an opportunity to inspire a unique sense of nationalism and patriotism in Nigeria moving forward.”

“This initiative is particularly timely and inspiring, especially in a time when military coups are trending on our African continent,” he further stated.
