The Lagos Branch of the National Association of Judicial Correspondents (NAJUC) has conducted elections to select a new set of executive officers who will oversee its activities for the next three years.
Among the newly elected officials are Babajide Leigh from Silverbird Television, who assumes the role of vice chairman, and Robert Egbe representing the Nation Newspaper, who takes on the position of general secretary, among others.
These officers were elected unanimously by all the members during the election process and were subsequently sworn in by Wale Igbintade, the chairman of the association’s electoral committee from ThisDay Newspaper.

On behalf of the newly elected officials, Olugbenga Soyele, who now serves as chairman, expressed gratitude to the members for deeming them worthy to serve the association for the next three years. He assured the members that the new executive committee would work diligently to elevate the association.
Soyele pledged to prioritize the welfare of all members and ensure the protection of their interests at all times. He stressed the commitment of the new executive officers to upholding the objectives and ethical standards of the journalism profession, emphasizing the importance of media responsibility, ethics, and values.
Furthermore, he promised to enhance members’ knowledge through the organization of workshops, seminars, and webinars.
Soyele affirmed that the new executive council would actively engage with all stakeholders and establish new partnerships to ensure that members could carry out their reporting duties in a conducive environment free from fear and intimidation.
He also commended the outgoing chairman of the association, Peter Fowoyo from the Daily Times, for his dedication and commitment to the well-being of the association’s members.

In an official statement released in Abuja, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru labeled Hunye as a suspended “imposter” with no legal or moral authority to represent the party. Basiru clarified that the party’s legitimate ticket belongs to Senator Olamilekan and his running mate, Balogun Abiodun, whose credentials have already been officially submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
According to the national leadership, Hunye’s membership status has been inactive due to a grassroots suspension originating from Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area, which was subsequently endorsed by the Ogun State Working Committee. The party accused Hunye of engaging in anti-party behavior and deliberate attempts to sow discord within its ranks.
Consequently, the APC has cautioned the general public, stakeholders, and political groups against engaging in any political or financial dealings with Hunye under the party’s banner, noting that individuals who do so will act entirely at their own risk. Supporters across the state have been urged to remain calm, orderly, and focused as the political process continues.
