Anambra Government to Sanction 2,000 Unaccredited Schools Ahead of First Term Resumption
Anambra Government to Sanction 2,000 Unaccredited Schools Ahead of First Term Resumption....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
As schools across Anambra State prepare to resume academic activities on September 17, the state government has announced plans to take action against no fewer than 2,000 unaccredited schools operating illegally. This development comes after a recent evaluation conducted by the state across its 21 local government areas.
In a statement released on Thursday, Sir Paul Nwosu, the Commissioner for Information, emphasized that schools operating without necessary accreditation risk immediate closure if they fail to comply with state regulations. He expressed the government’s deep concern about the proliferation of unauthorized schools, which fail to meet the required standards set by the Ministry of Education.
Nwosu stated, “The government of Anambra State is concerned that about 2,000 unaccredited/unapproved schools are operating across the 21 local government areas in the state. This is unacceptable, given the priority that Governor Chukwuma Soludo, a first-class academic himself, has accorded to quality education.”
The commissioner highlighted the importance of providing the best learning environment for children in the state, regardless of their location. Schools operating without accreditation, he added, are likely not meeting the high standards necessary for effective education.
To address the issue, the government has directed all the affected schools to obtain the necessary accreditation and registration from the Anambra State Ministry of Education. Those failing to comply with this directive before the resumption of the school term risk severe sanctions, including possible closure.
Nwosu assured that the list of government-approved schools will be made available to the Local Government Education Departments through the Transition Committee Chairmen, ensuring easy access for parents and guardians.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, had earlier warned parents to only enroll their children in government-approved schools. She also stated that parents who ignore this directive may face prosecution as accomplices in violating the state’s education standards.
