Published

on

Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched its 2025 Ember Months campaign, urging all road users to take personal responsibility for their safety to reduce road traffic crashes during the festive season.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Campaign Launch

The campaign was officially inaugurated in various states, including Ondo, Cross River, and Katsina, with the theme “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.” The FRSC emphasised that human factors, such as distracted driving, speeding, and fatigue, are major contributors to road accidents. The initiative aims to raise awareness and promote safer driving habits among motorists and other road users.

Statistics and Concerns

According to the FRSC, over 3,400 people lost their lives and more than 22,000 were injured in road crashes across Nigeria between January and September 2025. The majority of these incidents were attributed to human error, including driver fatigue, overloading, and distracted driving. The Ember Months campaign seeks to address these issues by encouraging responsible road use and adherence to traffic regulations.

Public Engagement

The FRSC has planned various activities to engage the public, including town hall meetings, media campaigns, and outreach programs in motor parks, schools, and religious institutions. These efforts aim to educate road users about the importance of safety and the consequences of reckless driving. The FRSC has also collaborated with transport unions, security agencies, and the media to amplify the campaign’s message.

Enforcement Measures

In addition to public awareness efforts, the FRSC has intensified enforcement activities to ensure compliance with traffic laws. This includes increased patrols, establishment of mobile courts along major highways, and deployment of personnel to accident-prone areas. The FRSC has also set up stopover operations to penalise offenders involved in overloading, speed limit violations, and driving under the influence.

Call to Action

The FRSC urges all road users to exercise caution and discipline during the Ember Months. Motorists are advised to avoid distractions, adhere to speed limits, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition. Passengers are also encouraged to report unsafe driving practices and cooperate with authorities to promote road safety.

The 2025 Ember Months campaign underscores the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring road safety. By adopting safe driving practices and remaining vigilant, road users can contribute to reducing accidents and fatalities during this high-risk period. The FRSC remains committed to its mission of creating a safer motoring environment in Nigeria.
