This was disclosed in a statement by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

Marwa gave the charge during a high-level meeting with directors, commanders, and heads of formations at the NDLEA National Headquarters in Abuja. He urged officers to sustain the current momentum in the fight against illicit drugs by aggressively dismantling trafficking networks and expanding public awareness campaigns across the country.

The meeting was attended by members of the Agency’s management, zonal commanders, commanders from the 36 states and the FCT, seaport and international airport commanders, as well as heads of the Marine Unit, Strike Force, and Special Operations Units.

Addressing the gathering, Marwa said the Agency had begun the year on a strong note, building on record-breaking achievements from previous years. He described 2026 as a year of unprecedented consolidation, particularly in Drug Supply Reduction (DSR) and Drug Demand Reduction (DDR).

“The results we achieved last year were significant, but we cannot afford to rest on our oars. Our 2026 goals are clear: to completely disrupt the financial lifelines of drug cartels and ensure that every community in Nigeria is sensitised against the scourge of substance abuse,” he said.

He directed all commands to ensure the effective execution of the Agency’s 2026 strategic work plan, stressing discipline, professionalism, and zero tolerance for compromise.

Reflecting on his tenure, Marwa said the progress recorded over the past five years was the result of collective effort and dedication, noting that the Agency now commands greater respect locally and internationally.

“We must not rest on our past successes. Rather, we must consolidate these gains and aim for even greater outcomes,” he said, adding that the renewal of his tenure by the President was a reflection of the work done by officers across the country.

Marwa emphasised that operational professionalism remains non-negotiable, urging commanders to ensure proper surveillance and planning before operations, and to seek reinforcements where capacity is limited to avoid unnecessary casualties.

He also noted the progress recorded in advocacy and sensitisation, especially in schools and communities, and called for intensified efforts. According to him, State Drug Control Committees must be strengthened and fully operational in all states, extending their reach to local government and ward levels.

Reassuring the public, Marwa said the NDLEA remains fully committed to protecting Nigerian youths and families from drug abuse. He warned drug cartels that there would be no breathing space for illicit activities in 2026 and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and continue providing useful intelligence, stressing that the fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse is a collective responsibility.
