Okupe Advises Governors on ₦62,000 Minimum WageFormer Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign organization in the 2023 election, Doyin Okupe, has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the ₦62,000 minimum wage. He contends that governors should have the autonomy to determine the minimum wage in their respective states.

Following the expiration of labour’s ultimatum on May 31 and subsequent industrial action, the Federal Government recently increased its minimum wage offer to ₦62,000. However, state governors have expressed concerns about the sustainability of this proposed wage.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Okupe suggests that instead of enforcing a uniform minimum wage across all states, the Federal Government should allow governors and local labour unions to negotiate and agree upon a minimum wage that aligns with the economic realities of each state.

In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Okupe emphasized the need for flexibility in minimum wage legislation, asserting that each state should be permitted to determine its own minimum wage based on local economic conditions and resources.

He argued that imposing a uniform minimum wage nationwide overlooks the diverse economic situations and fiscal capacities of individual states, advocating for a more decentralized approach to wage regulation.

Okupe’s stance reflects the complexity of the minimum wage issue and highlights the importance of considering regional disparities and local dynamics in wage policy decisions. As discussions continue between the Federal Government, state governors, and labour unions, Okupe’s perspective adds depth to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the proposed ₦62,000 minimum wage.

The breach was detected at approximately 18:31 UTC on Thursday, September 24, when system monitoring flagged unauthorized outflows from specific hot wallets. In response, the exchange immediately triggered emergency protocols and temporarily halted withdrawals as a security measure, while deposits and trading remained active.

Key Highlights:

  • Impacted Layers: In an initial advisory, CEO Gracy Chen confirmed that the hack was restricted to parts of the hot and warm wallet layers, leaving cold wallets completely secure.

  • User Funds Protected: Bitget assured customers that user funds remain safe, noting that the entire $351.6 million loss is fully covered by the platform’s User Protection Fund, which holds upwards of $464 million.

  • Backend Compromise: Chen further explained that attackers breached a critical backend wallet infrastructure system, manipulating transaction data to spoof authorizations and trigger fund transfers. Investigators ruled out private key compromises.

  • Affected Assets & Networks: The stolen funds encompassed a variety of tokens—including ETH, XRP, BNB, AVAX, USDT, and USDC—spanning across the Ethereum, XRP Ledger, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, BSC, and Base networks.

  • Suspected Culprits: Based on behavioral patterns and on-chain intelligence, Bitget suspects that North Korean hacker organizations are behind the raid. The exchange has alerted law enforcement, blockchain security firms, and relevant authorities while working alongside affected network foundations to freeze attacker-linked addresses.

  • Decentralized Arm Unaffected: Bitget emphasized that the independent decentralized product, Bitget Wallet, experienced zero impact from the incident.
