“I’m Not Blocking Anyone – APC Chairman Denies Obstructing Governors’ Defection”.

The statement comes in response to claims by the Youths Political Movement of Nigeria (YPMN), which alleged that Yilwatda refused to open the APC membership register to prevent the governors and other high-profile defectors from joining.
Professor Yilwatda rejected the allegations, asserting that they were deliberately designed to undermine his commitment to inclusive politics. He noted that since assuming office in July 2025, the party has registered over 500,000 new members nationwide through both ward-level and digital mobilization initiatives.
He stressed that the notion of restricting high-profile entrants contradicts his philosophy of expanding the party’s base to support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. Yilwatda clarified that neither he nor the National Working Committee (NWC) has issued any directive preventing the governors from joining the APC.
According to him, interactions with Governors Mutfwang and Adeleke have been “cordial and constructive,” and all frameworks for their “smooth and dignified integration” are in place. The party leadership suggested the claims are part of a coordinated effort to create internal mistrust ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A statement from the APC read: “His actions – supervising defection ceremonies, deploying mobilisation teams nationwide, and expanding the digital register – speak louder than any propaganda. These allegations are part of sponsored attacks on the National Chairman’s integrity and strategic leadership. The doors of the APC remain open, active, and welcoming.”
Yilwatda urged party members and the public to ignore such distractions, reaffirming that the APC remains united and committed to accommodating Nigerians of goodwill.

This follows a statement from Minister of Defence Christopher Musa, who revealed in an interview preview that the abductors had threatened to kill the captives if a rescue was attempted. The Minister explained that the bandits were using the hostages as leverage to secure the release of their commanders currently held by security forces.

Yilwatda emphasized the APC’s commitment to strengthening grassroots support and building on the current administration’s achievements to create a more prosperous, secure, and inclusive Nigeria.
