PDP In Turmoil: Turaki Meets State Leaders In Closed-Door Strategy Session.
According to reports, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki, convened with state chairmen in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to address the party’s internal crisis. The forum, led by Edo State PDP chairman Tony Aziegbemi, saw at least 29 state chairmen in attendance, each introducing themselves. The session is expected to kickstart a series of strategic engagements planned by Turaki to consolidate his position as PDP National Chairman.
In his opening remarks, Turaki encouraged state chairmen to contribute innovative ideas aimed at repositioning the party. He downplayed the influence of members aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Samuel Anyanwu, who recently inaugurated a caretaker committee to manage the party and prepare for a national convention.
Urging focus and dedication, Turaki stressed that the party under his leadership “means business” and called on chairmen to prepare for the work ahead. Following the welcome address, the meeting proceeded into a closed-door session.
The PDP remains divided between two factions asserting leadership of the opposition party. While the Wike-supported faction is led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, the Turaki group enjoys backing from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed. No court has yet determined the legality of either faction.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Secretary, Maj Gen Abdulmalik Jibril (retd.), the board instructed candidates to verify their status on the official recruitment portal using their registration application numbers. Those successfully shortlisted are required to log on to upload their credentials and pick their preferred date and venue for the physical screening, while strictly following all portal guidelines.
This recruitment cycle encompasses the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), and the Federal Fire Service (FFS).
Issuing a stern warning against fraudsters, the board emphasized that candidates must not make any payments for shortlisting, document uploading, venue selection, or final placement. Applicants are also strongly advised to ignore scam messages, unverified links, and impostors falsely claiming affiliation with the board.
The recruitment process commenced with online submissions in July 2025, leading up to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) held in November of that same year.
Head coach Hakeem Busari has called up 26 players to the training camp as the Nigerian U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, kick off preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. All 26 invitees are expected to report to the Serob Legacy Hotel in Wuye, Abuja, on Sunday, August 30, to commence the initial phase of their final buildup. With the exception of the 2018 tournament in Uruguay, the Flamingos have featured in every edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup since its inception in New Zealand in 2008. This opening camp gives the technical crew an opportunity to assess the squad and build a competitive team ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

Responding to the statement—which noted Atiku as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate—Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, pointed out that the federal government already reopened the majority of the nation’s land borders back on March 14, 2024.
Highlighting further administrative actions, Dare referenced President Tinubu’s formal opening of the Kamba border in Kebbi State on February 14, 2026, noting that the decision has yielded positive economic and diplomatic results. He challenged Atiku to clarify which specific borders he intends to target and demanded transparency on whether his policy involves dismantling current security frameworks.
Emphasizing the distinction between open commerce and unchecked access, Dare stated that an open border must not equate to a lawless one. He underscored that modern governance requires balancing trade facilitation with strict safeguards against arms trafficking, terrorism, smuggling, and human trafficking.
The presidency concluded by stressing that as transnational security threats grow, robust border controls remain vital to national defense, urging that political debates on the economy and security must remain rooted in facts and practical policy alternatives rather than outdated premises.
