Enoidem’s defection signals a significant political realignment in the state and follows a reconciliation process facilitated by Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, between him and his former political leader and President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking when Governor Eno led a high-powered delegation of political leaders to his residence in Uyo to formally notify him of the defection, Akpabio commended the governor for fostering political unity in the state.

The Senate President stressed that peace, cooperation, and harmony among political stakeholders were critical to accelerating development in Akwa Ibom.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio said political engagement should extend beyond electoral contests, noting that unity and stability remain essential for good governance.

“Any effort aimed at preventing conflict and fostering harmony is worthwhile and beneficial to the state,” Akpabio was quoted as saying.

Governor Eno explained that the visit was to formally inform the Senate President of Enoidem’s decision to join the APC, describing the move as part of broader efforts to strengthen political cooperation and stability in the state.

According to the governor, political leaders in Akwa Ibom have resolved to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and work collectively to drive development across the state.

Speaking during the visit, Enoidem described Governor Eno as a unifying leader and expressed appreciation for his role in reconciling him with Akpabio.

He noted that despite past political differences, Akpabio remains his political leader, pledging to work with him for the progress and growth of Akwa Ibom State.

Enoidem served for eight years as a commissioner during Akpabio’s tenure as governor before later becoming the PDP’s National Legal Adviser. He also contested against Akpabio in the last senatorial election for the Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.

The former PDP chieftain is expected to be formally received into the APC at a rally scheduled for Friday, January 23, in Utu Etim Ekpo, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
