Rufai Oseni Praised for Bold Journalism as Nigerians Back Courage to Ask Tough Questions
Nigerian journalist and television host Rufai Oseni is gaining wide attention for his fearless style of questioning government officials and public figures on live television, a move many viewers say reflects the growing demand for accountability in Nigeria’s political space.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Oseni, a co-host on Arise Morning Show on Arise News Channel, has built a reputation for asking direct and often uncomfortable questions that challenge politicians to explain their actions and policies. His method, though sometimes controversial, has earned him both criticism and praise.
In recent months, Oseni’s interviews have sparked public debate and viral moments on social media. During a heated discussion with All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Jesutega Onokpasa, Oseni questioned the government’s handling of fuel subsidy removal, insisting that the policy had deepened hardship for Nigerians. The exchange quickly trended online, with many calling Oseni “the voice of the people.”
Some political figures have accused the journalist of being biased or disrespectful, but Oseni has denied those claims. He said his duty as a journalist is to seek truth and hold leaders accountable, not to please them. “My questions come from facts and data,” Oseni said in an earlier interview. “I am not partisan. I am driven by logic and evidence.”
Earlier this year, Oseni clashed with Daniel Bwala, a media aide to President Bola Tinubu, during a live interview. The session became tense after Bwala accused the anchor of being confrontational, threatening to leave the set. The incident again drew public attention, with many Nigerians defending Oseni’s approach as professional and necessary for democracy.
Observers say Oseni’s style represents a new wave of Nigerian journalism that prioritizes public interest over political loyalty. “He is doing what every journalist should do—ask hard questions,” said media analyst Chika Onah. “The discomfort of those in power shows he is doing his job.”
Despite his growing popularity, Oseni has faced personal attacks and threats. In 2022, he alleged that political supporters attempted to assault him in an elevator after a program. “It’s not easy to stay strong in this environment,” he said afterward, “but silence is not an option.”
In September, Oseni criticized reports that a political party demanded $1 million for an exclusive interview with its governorship candidate. He described the request as “unethical” and said such practices damage journalism’s integrity. “We should use that kind of money to help Nigerians, not to buy access,” he said on social media.
The journalist has also stirred public debate over his remarks that government officials with foreign passports may have divided loyalty. While some agreed, others accused him of being unfair. Oseni, however, insisted that leadership should come with full commitment to Nigeria’s future.
Born in Ogun State, Oseni studied Animal Anatomy and Physiology at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, before moving into broadcasting. He began his career in radio before joining Arise News, where he quickly became known for his sharp analysis and outspoken character.
Supporters say his rise is proof that Nigerian journalism can still be fearless and impactful, even without government backing. “Rufai speaks for the ordinary citizen,” said Abuja resident Kemi Adewale. “When he asks questions, he is asking on our behalf.”
Critics, however, argue that journalists should remain neutral and avoid emotional exchanges on air. “Journalism should inform, not provoke,” said political commentator Musa Ahmed. “Sometimes Oseni crosses that line.”
Still, public support for him continues to grow. On social media, hashtags like #StandWithRufai trend whenever his interviews make headlines.
As Nigeria continues to face economic hardship and political tension, many citizens say journalists like Rufai Oseni remind the country that tough questions are necessary for progress.
“Courage in journalism is not about shouting,” Oseni said recently. “It’s about asking the right questions — even when they burn.”

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde Recounts Terrifying Encounter With Men Who Tried To Assault her.
Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has opened up about a frightening experience she had at just 15 years old when she went to a rough part of Mushin, Lagos State, in search of money to pay her brother’s school fees.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on The Afropolitan Show, Omotola recounted that a colleague in the film industry had taken her to meet men in the area known for lending money. She described having to navigate a dangerous environment before reaching the location where the men were waiting.
The actress said the men were notorious in the neighborhood for being dangerous and dealing with loans. Upon arrival, she pleaded with them for financial help to cover her brother’s school fees, a situation that left her terrified due to her young age and the men’s intimidating reputation. Omotola admitted that the encounter could have ended badly but felt she was protected.
She recalled: “There was a time when a colleague in the industry took me to a place in Mushin, some ghetto area. We walked through a rough part of the neighborhood. I was about 15 then. We got to this place and these bad boys were there, like in a sitting room. I begged them, explaining I needed money for my brother’s school fees. They looked at me… they could have harmed me.”
Eventually, the men agreed to lend her the money. However, she later ran into difficulties repaying the loan. The unpaid debt led to threats from the lenders, who eventually came to her home. During the visit, they took several household items, including the family television and DVD player, in an attempt to recover the money they claimed she owed.
