Big Brother Naija: I didn’t use pity strategy to win show – Imisi
LAGOS, Nigeria — Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner Opeyemi Ayanwale, popularly known as Imisi, has dismissed claims that she used a pity strategy to win the reality TV show.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The 23-year-old reality star, who captured the hearts of millions of viewers during her stay in the Big Brother house, said she never intended to play the victim or seek sympathy votes.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Imisi explained that her entry into the show was spontaneous and unplanned, leaving her little time to prepare. “I didn’t come in with a pity strategy. I didn’t even believe I was going to be picked for the show,” she said. “When I got the mail, I had only a few days to pack. I was in Ijebu at the time, and I brought all the costumes I took to that location to my sister, then we started planning.”
Imisi revealed that her wardrobe and personality on the show were true reflections of her real life, not part of a game plan. “I didn’t have time to go home, and even if I did, I feel like it’s just a few things I’d have taken because most of the outfits I wore in the house are what I usually wear outside. That’s just me,” she added.
The young star emphasized that her success was based on authenticity and connection with the audience rather than calculated moves. “Everything you saw in the house was the real me. I didn’t fake anything. I was just being myself,” she said.
Imisi’s comments come amid mixed reactions from fans and critics about her strategy in the competition. While some praised her humility and natural charm, others believed her calm and emotional moments might have won her sympathy votes.
Since emerging as the winner, Imisi has expressed interest in pursuing an acting career. In previous interviews, she mentioned her admiration for Nollywood icons and her desire to make a mark in the movie industry.
“I’ve always loved acting. It’s something I’ve dreamed of, and now I finally have the platform to make it happen,” she said, adding that she looks forward to collaborating with established filmmakers and learning from industry veterans.
Her journey on Big Brother Naija has inspired many young Nigerians who see her as proof that staying true to oneself can lead to success. Despite online debates about her gameplay, Imisi insists she remains focused on building a lasting career beyond the show.
“I’m grateful to everyone who supported me. The love has been overwhelming. I just want to keep growing and make people proud,” she said.
The Season 10 edition of Big Brother Naija wrapped up with Imisi taking home the grand prize, cementing her place among the show’s most memorable winners.
