VeryDarkMan Electric Bike Plan Sparks Debate Over Nigeria’s Fuel Economy
Popular Nigerian activist and influencer, VeryDarkMan, has revealed plans to import electric bikes from China to Nigeria, a move many believe could help reduce the country’s heavy dependence on petrol.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The outspoken social commentator said the project aims to provide Nigerians with a cheaper and more sustainable means of transportation, especially as the cost of petrol continues to rise after the removal of fuel subsidies.
Many Nigerians have welcomed the idea, saying it could ease the burden on citizens struggling with high transport fares. The country’s petrol prices have more than tripled in the past year, making mobility difficult for low-income earners.
However, some citizens expressed doubt that the initiative would receive government support. Critics fear political and business interests tied to the oil sector could frustrate the project’s progress. “Politicians will not want electric bikes to thrive because they profit from petrol sales,” one Lagos resident said.
If successful, the plan could mark a major shift toward green transportation in Nigeria. Electric bikes are cheaper to maintain and emit no carbon, offering an eco-friendly alternative to fuel-powered motorcycles commonly used across the country.
Experts say adopting electric mobility would not only cut down transportation costs but also reduce air pollution and dependence on imported fuel. Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer, paradoxically relies on refined petroleum imports due to its underperforming refineries.
While details of VeryDarkMan’s partnership with Chinese manufacturers remain unclear, his announcement has drawn widespread attention online. Supporters urge the government to encourage innovation in renewable energy and electric vehicles, noting that countries like Kenya and Rwanda are already embracing electric transport.
Transportation analyst Tunde Ajayi said, “If Nigeria supports local assembly of electric bikes and provides charging infrastructure, it could save billions of naira annually and create new jobs.”
Still, others worry about challenges such as poor electricity supply, high import duties, and lack of policy support for electric vehicles. Without stable power, many fear the project may struggle to succeed beyond major cities.
For now, Nigerians are watching to see whether VeryDarkMan’s ambition can overcome the nation’s political and economic barriers.
If realized, his plan could set the stage for a new era of affordable, clean, and efficient transportation in Nigeria.
