According to sources, Aziegbemi was abducted as he was about to enter his house in Benin City after a meeting with Governor Godwin Obaseki. The abduction took place at the entrance of his house along Country Home Hotel Road.

The driver of Aziegbemi’s vehicle was left unharmed as the kidnappers seized the PDP chairman. It was also revealed that the party’s governorship candidate for the upcoming September 21, 2024, election, Asue Ighodalo, was supposed to attend the meeting with the governor but couldn’t due to prior engagements in Uromi.
