Festus Akingbaso, the Deputy Governorship Candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming Ondo governorship election, has appealed to residents to reject any form of violence before, during, and after the election. Addressing the community in Idanre Local Government Area, Akingbaso emphasized the importance of peaceful participation in the electoral process.
Akingbaso, who also serves as a member of the House of Representatives, expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances of winning the governorship election. He encouraged supporters to focus on their goal while remaining non-confrontational. “Idanre has never had a deputy governor before now. This is our opportunity,” he stated. He urged youths in particular to refrain from engaging in violence and to concentrate on voting.
Highlighting the financial disparities between political parties, Akingbaso acknowledged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might have greater resources. However, he urged voters to prioritize their commitment to the PDP. “When they give you money, take their money and vote for PDP,” he advised, emphasizing the need for unity among party supporters.
In a show of solidarity, Agboola Ajayi, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, also addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome from residents and party leaders. While acknowledging the recent passing of their local king, Ajayi urged the community to focus on delivering votes for the PDP in the upcoming November 16 election. “No reasonable person should contemplate voting for APC given the hardships faced by Nigerians,” he stated.
During the event, Eddy Olafeso, chairman of the PDP Campaign Council in the state, inaugurated the Local Government Campaign Council. He urged council members to work diligently to secure a win for the PDP in Idanre.
