Amid growing concerns and calls for the reevaluation of the NYSC program, particularly in light of the unfortunate abductions of corps members in certain regions, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of the young graduates enlisted in the scheme.
“We have implemented an immediate measure to ensure the safety of corps members by refraining from posting them to states grappling with insecurity. This is not a novel practice; we have been implementing it in the past,” Minister Bio-Ibrahim affirmed.
She underscored the collaborative efforts required to address security matters effectively, emphasizing that the NYSC is working in tandem with various security agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to the safety of corps members.
“The security of corps members necessitates innovative strategies and close collaboration with other government agencies. It is a multi-sectoral approach involving not only the NYSC but also various security outlets,” the minister explained.
This proactive move by the Federal Government reflects a commitment to adaptability and responsiveness in the face of evolving security concerns, ensuring that the NYSC remains a platform for youth development without compromising the safety of its participants.
