NYSC Responds to Rejection of Prospective Corps Members Amid Late Arrivals
NYSC Responds to Rejection of Prospective Corps Members Amid Late Arrivals....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has explained that the rejection of several Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) from its ongoing 2024 Batch “B” Stream 2 Orientation Course resulted from their late arrival at designated camps. This announcement follows reports of numerous graduates stranded across Nigeria after being turned away from orientation camps.
According to SaharaReporters, many affected corps members were unable to register for their compulsory one-year service due to their delayed arrival. Specifically, graduates mobilized for the 2024 Batch B Stream who were subsequently shifted to Batch C faced rejection. One affected individual reported that approximately 40 graduates were sent home from the Lagos orientation camp.
“I got my call-up letter on Thursday and reached camp on Saturday, only to be turned away after spending a lot on transportation,” the individual recounted, expressing frustration over the situation. “We were over 40 in the Lagos camp, just waiting around to see if there’s a way.”
In a press statement released by Caroline Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, the agency confirmed that the PCMs had arrived late for their orientation. The statement emphasized that the policy on mobilization and orientation is clearly outlined in the enabling Act and the call-up letters issued to the PCMs.
The statement clarified, “The first paragraph of the call-up letter for this batch of corps members stated that registration would close by midnight on Thursday, August 29, 2024. The swearing-in ceremony for those who completed the registration process would take place simultaneously nationwide on Friday, August 30, 2024.”
In light of the situation, the NYSC management extended the registration deadline to midnight on Friday, August 30, 2024, following reports of late arrivals. However, after this extension, further complaints emerged on social media, prompting the Director-General to visit various camps to assess the situation.
While expressing sympathy for the affected PCMs, the Director-General reiterated the importance of adhering to the stipulated dates for registration. He directed that the impacted Prospective Corps Members be provided with accommodation and meals before leaving the camps. Additionally, he assured those who made efforts but failed to meet the registration schedule that they would receive considerations during the 2024 Batch “C” mobilization.
