Buni made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing delegates after the conclusion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) state congress in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

“I would rather die than betray our mentor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam. I am deeply grateful for his role in my political journey,” he said.

“I will never forget where I come from, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me,” Buni added.

He emphasized that notable political careers are built on trust, describing himself as a product of that principle. “I want to be remembered as someone who never betrays anyone,” he declared.

The governor also urged the newly elected party officials in the state to remain steadfast, calling on them to uphold trust and integrity in their duties.

According to reports, the announcement was made in an official circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and shared on the Lagos State Government’s Facebook page on Tuesday.

Adetola succeeds Abiodun Muritala, who retired statutorily from the role of Accountant-General. He officially assumed office on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Prior to his new role, Adetola served as the State Auditor-General. His redeployment to lead the State Treasury Office was described by government officials as a strategic measure to strengthen public financial management.

In the announcement, Head of Service Mr. Bode Agoro congratulated Adetola and urged all stakeholders to provide support for a smooth transition. He emphasized that cooperation is essential to ensure continuity and efficiency in line with the directives of the circular.

“The strategic redeployment reflects the State Government’s commitment to efficiency, accountability, and continuity in public financial administration,” the statement added.

The circular confirmed that the appointment took effect immediately from March 2, underscoring the state government’s dedication to maintaining stability in the Treasury Office following Muritala’s retirement.

According to reports, Adeyanju, in a statement titled “Sudden Fuel Price Increment: Dangote Evil Monopoly Destroying Nigeria”, criticized Dangote Refinery for raising the pump price of fuel by over 100 percent, attributing the hike to the ongoing conflict in Iran and rising tensions in the Gulf region.

Adeyanju questioned the justification for the increase, noting that the refinery sources its crude oil locally within Nigeria. He also pointed out that the Federal Government had approved a policy allowing the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to sell crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in naira—a measure intended to stabilize supply and shield local fuel prices from foreign exchange fluctuations.

The activist expressed concern over what he described as the refinery’s near-monopoly in the downstream sector, arguing that limited competition may be driving unchecked price hikes.

He stated:
“Aliko Dangote has increased the pump price of fuel by over 100%, citing the war in Iran. Yet the Dangote Refinery purchases crude oil domestically, and the President approved that the NNPC sell crude oil to the refinery in naira.

“The products currently being supplied were refined long before the recent escalation of hostilities in the Gulf. Why, then, should Nigerians bear the burden of a price increase linked to events that did not affect the cost of already-refined stock?

“Because the refinery operates in a near-monopoly, the government seems either unwilling or unable to intervene. This is unprecedented wrongdoing, as the Dangote Refinery appears to profit from the misfortune of war at the expense of already impoverished Nigerian citizens.”
