The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to engage in discussions with cattle breeders before implementing the ban on cattle grazing in the central area of Abuja. He has also committed to offering an alternative mode of transportation prior to enforcing the ban on commercial motorcycle operators within the city center.
Wike made these assurances during a press briefing on Saturday following his inspection of several ongoing road projects in various parts of the nation’s capital. He emphasized his administration’s dedication to constructing a capital city that all Nigerians can take pride in.
Additionally, Wike conducted the swearing-in of key officials in the administration, including Charles Elechi, who assumed the role of Secretary of Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership. During the ceremony, Wike urged the appointees to carry out their responsibilities with a strong sense of urgency, commitment, and selflessness.
Charles Elechi, who was appointed as Secretary, previously served two terms as Commissioner for Agriculture and Transport in Abia State and also held the position of Special Adviser to a former governor in the state in 2015. Several other secretaries were also inaugurated, each assigned to specific areas of the secretariat.
The minister called upon the newly inaugurated secretaries to exhibit unwavering diligence and dedication to their duties in order to realize President Bola Tinubu’s ambitious agenda of transforming the FCT into a world-class Capital Territory.
In his address, Wike remarked, “Today, we mark the beginning of a new chapter, one that demands dedication, diligence, and a steadfast commitment to service. It is my privilege to serve as FCT Minister and to work with you as we embark on a mission of rebuilding and developing the FCT into a world-class Capital Territory. This task has been entrusted to us by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and it comes at a time when our beloved capital city is in need of renewal.”
He further highlighted various challenges affecting the development of the FCT, including revenue generation, environmental sanitation, public health, infrastructure development, security, education, agriculture, and satellite town development. Wike underscored the importance of establishing a reliable and comprehensive public transportation system to address these challenges and ensure the effective functioning of the city.
