FG Set To Evacuate Nigerians As Middle-East Crisis Escalates.

Published

on

The Federal Government has announced that it is currently putting in place necessary administrative measures and arranging funding to facilitate the evacuation of Nigerians affected by the escalating crisis in parts of the Middle East.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, the decision comes amid heightened tensions across the region following a series of missile and drone attacks linked to Iran, which have raised serious security concerns in several Gulf nations. The situation worsened after coordinated military operations reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.

The spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, confirmed that preparations for the evacuation are already in progress. He disclosed that authorities are finalizing key administrative procedures and securing funds required to begin the operation.

Growing concerns have been expressed over the safety of Nigerians stranded in countries such as Iran, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Qatar, especially as the crisis has disrupted flights and travel plans across the region.

Officials noted that evacuating Nigerians from Iran presents significant logistical challenges, as arrangements involve moving stranded students from various universities to the Armenian border while complying with entry requirements set by Armenian authorities. The government is also considering multiple evacuation strategies, including the possible deployment of Nigerian Air Force aircraft, although security risks continue to complicate flight operations.

Ebienfa further explained that many Nigerians stranded in Qatar are mainly transit passengers whose travel plans were disrupted. He added that airlines are assisting affected individuals, with some already returning home as flight operations gradually resume. He confirmed that Qatar Airways has recommenced flights to Nigeria, with stranded passengers expected to return within days.

Some Nigerians have also reportedly found alternative routes through cities such as Cairo and Nairobi to make their way back home.

Meanwhile, authorities in the United Arab Emirates confirmed that their air defence systems intercepted several missiles and drones launched from Iran. The attacks resulted in casualties, with multiple fatalities and injuries recorded among residents and foreign nationals. Ebienfa revealed that a Nigerian injured during the incident has since received treatment and been discharged.

In a related development, the Iranian government has expressed readiness to support Nigeria in evacuating its citizens. Iran’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Raja, stated that Tehran remains committed to ensuring the safety of foreign nationals and is willing to assist Nigerians who wish to leave the country. He noted that Iran’s land borders remain open and are already being used by foreign nationals seeking to exit.

The ambassador added that several hundred Nigerians, many of them students on scholarship programmes, currently reside in Iran, alongside others engaged in small-scale businesses. He explained that the exact number remains uncertain due to incomplete registration with the Nigerian embassy.

At the same time, Emirates Airline has announced the temporary suspension of flights to and from Dubai International Airport following directives from aviation authorities amid the rising tensions. Passengers have been advised to avoid traveling to the airport until further notice.

The disruption has affected thousands of travellers, including Nigerians who rely on Dubai as a key transit hub, with several business engagements, conferences, and tourism activities either cancelled or rescheduled. Travel agents also reported that many passengers are still awaiting refunds or alternative travel arrangements as the situation continues to evolve.

ADC Ticket Battle: Kwankwaso, Amaechi, Others Blast Atiku Over Supremacy Claims.

Published

on

A heated political exchange has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential race, as camps backing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s rivals push back against his claims of superior popularity, especially in the North.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso rejected Atiku’s assertion that he remains the dominant northern vote-getter, insisting that such claims do not reflect today’s political realities.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, aligned with a potential Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, dismissed Atiku’s influence in the North as largely elite-driven, arguing that Kwankwaso enjoys more genuine grassroots support.

Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi also reacted, faulting Atiku’s position and questioning the logic of relying solely on regional identity as a basis for presidential ambition.

Atiku, in a recent interview, had maintained that none of his northern rivals, including Kwankwaso, can match his electoral strength, while downplaying Kwankwaso’s influence beyond Kano State.

His remarks sparked criticism across political circles, with some opposition figures describing them as arrogant and dismissive of other contenders.

Kwankwaso’s camp, however, maintained that both Kwankwaso and Obi have more “organic” support bases compared to politically induced followership, warning that such comments could deepen divisions within the ADC coalition.

Amaechi also argued that the ADC presidential ticket should be determined through a competitive primary rather than consensus, insisting that all aspirants should be tested at the ballot.

The growing disagreement highlights rising tension within the opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key figures intensify positioning for the party’s presidential ticket.
