He noted that opposition parties in Nigeria would remain in disarray until the 2027 general elections are concluded.

“Each time we pass a law and the opposition frowns, I get excited because it shows we’ve done the right thing,” he said.

Akpabio argued that the opposition’s decision to start political activities ahead of the timeline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for August 2026 reflects confusion within their ranks.

“While we are moving across Nigeria, consulting and campaigning, many of them are still trying to set up their political structures. They haven’t even completed registration and will remain in confusion until the 2027 elections. Instead of getting their houses in order, they are breaking apart,” he said.

Akpabio also criticised internal divisions in opposition parties, pointing to leadership disputes.

“You see a man who formed the Labour Party, which once had millions of votes; today, they can’t even secure a hundred thousand because the party is in distress. Leadership is split—some in the North, some in the South, East, and West.

Player Substitutions
Under the updated rule, players being substituted must leave the field within 10 seconds. Failing to do so will result in the incoming player waiting one minute before entering. This aims to discourage deliberate delays, particularly when teams are protecting narrow leads late in games.

Injured Players Must Receive Treatment Off the Pitch
Players requiring medical attention must leave the field and remain off the pitch for at least one minute before returning. Previously tested in competitions like the Arab Cup, the rule aims to reduce delays and keep the game flowing. FIFA referees chairman Pierluigi Collina noted that this change will improve match rhythm and reduce time-wasting.
