Court Voids PDP Governorship Primary In Ekiti, Orders Fresh Poll.
A Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship primary election conducted ahead of the 2026 governorship contest, directing the party to organise a fresh primary.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Nivo News, the court, presided over by Justice Babs Kuewumi, upheld allegations of irregularities raised by one of the aspirants, Prince Funso Ayeni, who challenged the conduct of the exercise. Ayeni had alleged that the approved delegate list was tampered with on the day of the primary, a situation he said undermined transparency, fairness and internal democracy within the party.
In his ruling, Justice Kuewumi held that the primary election was characterised by gross abuse of process and a clear violation of the PDP’s electoral guidelines. The judge stressed that the conduct of the exercise was inconsistent with the provisions of the party’s constitution and contrary to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which governs electoral processes.
The judgment represents a major setback for the PDP as it now faces the task of conducting another primary election in preparation for the June 20, 2026, governorship poll in Ekiti State.
Reacting to the ruling, the party’s South-West Zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, said the PDP would explore all available legal options, including filing an appeal. He expressed confidence in the party’s legal team and insisted that the judgment would not derail its preparations for the forthcoming election.
Atofarati stated that the ruling marked only one stage of the judicial process, adding that the PDP’s campaign activities remained on course. He said the party had already inaugurated its campaign committee and commenced grassroots mobilisation across the 16 local government areas of the state in support of its candidate, Dr Wole Oluyede.
He dismissed claims that the court decision signified a collapse of the party’s campaign, maintaining that the primary election was free, fair and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission. According to him, the legal challenge was part of a broader attempt to undermine the party and its flagbearer.
Atofarati further noted that while multiple aspirants initially challenged the primary in court, one of them later withdrew, leaving Ayeni as the sole petitioner. He reaffirmed the party’s resolve to remain focused on its campaign, insisting that Ekiti residents are determined to vote for change in 2026 and see the PDP as a credible alternative.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
