Mbah made the announcement on Tuesday during a statewide broadcast and a ceremony held at the Government House in Enugu. He was joined by members of the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, local government chairmen, and councillors who also switched allegiance to the ruling party.

The governor said his decision was driven by the need to align Enugu with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu, a move he described as essential for achieving sustainable development and better access to federal projects and funding.

“This decision is about progress, not politics,” Mbah said. “We believe working with the federal government will open doors for Enugu to benefit more from national programs and infrastructure development.”

During the event, Mbah and his team were officially presented with their APC membership cards, symbolizing their formal integration into the party. The ceremony was attended by top APC leaders, who welcomed the governor and his supporters into the fold.

Party officials described the defection as a “strategic realignment” that would strengthen the APC’s presence in the South East and enhance collaboration between the state and the federal government. They praised Mbah for prioritizing the welfare of Enugu residents over partisan divisions.
