Soludo Urges Corps Members to Embrace Service and Patriotism
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to place service and patriotism above personal interest during their one-year national assignment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at the official swearing-in of the 2025 Batch B Stream II corps members at the state’s permanent orientation camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Soludo said the scheme remains a strong pillar for national unity and development.
The governor, represented by the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha Mba, urged the corps members to see their deployment as an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the country while building lifelong values.
He said Nigeria needs young people who are ready to serve with integrity and dedication, adding that corps members should be good ambassadors of their families, communities, and the nation.
“Your service year is not just a formality. It is a chance to show patriotism and to build bridges of unity across cultures and regions,” Soludo said. “We urge you to prioritize the interest of the nation and demonstrate discipline, responsibility, and love for service.”
More than 1,500 corps members were sworn in at the orientation camp, which began earlier this month. The three-week exercise is designed to prepare participants for the challenges of their primary assignments in schools, government offices, and private organizations across Anambra State.
The governor assured the corps members that his administration remains committed to their welfare and security. He said the state government has partnered with security agencies to provide a safe environment for their service.
Soludo also encouraged them to take advantage of skill acquisition programs offered during the camp, noting that such training will prepare them for self-reliance after the service year.
“Beyond your certificates, the skills you gain here will be useful for your future,” he said. “We are in a world where creativity and entrepreneurship matter. Use this opportunity to learn and to prepare for life after NYSC.”
The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ekene Iruma, thanked the governor for his support to the scheme. She said the corps members have shown enthusiasm since arriving at camp and are committed to serving in the state.
Iruma reminded the participants of the importance of discipline and respect for camp rules. She also urged them to participate fully in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, which equips corps members with practical skills in areas such as agriculture, fashion design, and ICT.
Some corps members who spoke to reporters said they were excited about the opportunity to serve in Anambra and pledged to make a positive impact in their host communities.
“I see this as a chance to learn and to give back to society,” said Uchenna Eze, a graduate from Enugu State University of Science and Technology. “I am looking forward to teaching in rural schools and contributing in my own little way.”
Another corps member, Aisha Mohammed from Kaduna State, said she was impressed with the hospitality of the people. “It feels like home already. I believe this program really helps us to understand and appreciate our diversity,” she said.
The NYSC was established in 1973 to promote unity and foster national development by posting young graduates to states outside their regions of origin. Despite challenges over the years, including insecurity in some parts of the country, the program has continued to produce graduates who contribute to education, healthcare, and community development projects.
Observers say Soludo’s appeal to corps members reflects wider calls for young Nigerians to play an active role in building the nation at a time of economic hardship and social tension.
The orientation exercise will end in October, after which corps members will be posted to their primary places of assignment across Anambra.
