The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the suspension of three of its national officers—National Chairman Shehu Musa Gaba, National Auditor Clarkson Nnadi, and National Youth Leader Ogbonna Uchechukwu—over allegations of financial misconduct, constitutional violations, and gross indiscipline.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party said the suspensions were approved by the National Working Committee (NWC) following its meeting on June 24, 2025. The NWC acted after reviewing initial evidence pointing to financial irregularities and other serious infractions by the affected officials.
The party stated that the suspensions take immediate effect, in line with the powers conferred on the NWC by the amended 2022 Constitution of the SDP. It added that the disciplinary action will remain in force pending the conclusion of internal investigations and external probes by law enforcement agencies into allegations of conspiracy, fraud, misappropriation, and diversion of party funds spanning 2022 to 2025.
“These individuals are under investigation for alleged involvement in financial misconduct and for violating key provisions of the party’s constitution,” the statement read.
The SDP also confirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been formally notified of the development and had acknowledged receipt of the notification.
As a precaution, the party cautioned the public and political actors against engaging in any form of dealings, collaboration, or negotiations with the suspended officials, stressing that they no longer hold any authority to represent the SDP in any capacity.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, discipline, and internal accountability, the SDP said the disciplinary measures were vital to safeguarding the party’s integrity and ensuring a credible foundation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
