The heartbreaking news was confirmed by Michael’s brother in a telephone conversation on Sunday morning. The family learned of Michael’s death on Saturday when his body, along with Musa’s, was found in a forest in Kwara State. Eyewitnesses reported that the bodies, discovered on a paved road, had been shot.

Contrary to earlier government reports claiming the rescue of the kidnapped students, it has emerged that those “rescued” were students who had been hiding in the forest during the attack. The abducted students, including Michael and Musa, remained in captivity until their tragic deaths.

The terrorists initially demanded a ransom of ₦200 million, later reducing it to ₦100 million, but remained steadfast in their demands despite numerous pleas. Michael’s family offered ₦4 million, but the terrorists rejected it, insisting on the full ransom from the government.

“The truth is that the government really lied about the rescue of the students. Those they claimed they rescued were those students hiding inside the forest during the invasion,” said Michael’s brother. “But the real ones that were kidnapped, including my brother, were not rescued. They have been with the terrorists since that day.”

He further criticized the state government for its reluctance and slow response to the situation, suggesting that their inaction contributed to the tragic outcome.

This incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, where kidnapping for ransom has become alarmingly common, and raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of government responses to such crises.
