The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s unshakable commitment to eradicating terrorism and securing the nation through robust counter-terrorism efforts.
Speaking during the interdenominational church service marking the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Abuja, Oluyede emphasized the Army’s resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty, protect its territorial integrity, and uphold the rights of its citizens.
“We remain grounded in our honour and faith, living by our motto: ‘Victory is from God Alone’,” he declared. “To those who threaten our freedom, democracy, and national unity, know this—your failure is inevitable, and your threats are meaningless.”
He assured that the Nigerian Army would continue to work collaboratively with other security agencies and stakeholders to deliver on its mandate of national security.
The COAS said NADCEL not only celebrates the Army’s founding but also honours the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of its personnel. He paid tribute to fallen heroes, saying their bravery remains a guiding light for those still in service.
“The commencement of Army Day activities with Juma’at prayers and church services reflects our acknowledgment of divine guidance in our duties. Faith and hope are cornerstones of moral strength and ethical conduct in our operations,” Oluyede added.
Marking 162 years of service to the nation, the Army chief said the occasion highlights a legacy of patriotism and valor passed down by generations of soldiers.
“We gather here today in this sacred space to draw strength and hope for the future. As we thank God for His past mercies, we ask for His protection in the days ahead, so we can serve Nigeria more effectively.”
He encouraged Nigerians to support the military, saying national security is a collective responsibility. “The Nigerian Army belongs to everyone, and we need your cooperation to make the country safer and stronger.”
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, attended the service alongside his wife, Oghogho Musa, and other senior officers.
