Speaking at the 2024 Annual Vanguard Economic Discourse themed “Reform in an Era of Global Economic Uncertainty: Whither Nigeria,” held in Lagos, Cardoso emphasized that the recent reforms introduced by the CBN are already yielding positive results.

Cardoso highlighted the prevalent global economic uncertainties, characterized by volatility and geopolitical tensions, which have exerted significant pressure on economic growth worldwide. He noted the challenges posed by tight financial conditions, disruptions to global supply chains, and geopolitical tensions, among others.

On the domestic front, Cardoso acknowledged the uncertainties driven by high inflationary pressure, foreign exchange volatility, rising debt burden, and slowing economic growth. He emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges through appropriate focus and unwavering reforms.

The Governor outlined key measures undertaken by the CBN to address these challenges, including tightening monetary policy to combat inflation and implementing major reforms to liberalize the foreign exchange market.
