The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has publicly apologised to President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu following a walkout staged by a group of women during an official event in Port Harcourt.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The incident occurred during an empowerment programme under the Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at supporting 500 women in Rivers State. Tensions escalated when women reportedly loyal to suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara exited the venue in protest, allegedly after being excluded in favour of Wike’s allies.

In a statement released from China, where Wike is currently on official duties, he described the act as disgraceful and unrepresentative of Rivers people. His apology, issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, condemned the behaviour as a direct insult to the offices of both the President and the First Lady.

“As far as I and those aligned with my leadership are concerned, we wholeheartedly condemn the shameful incident. It does not reflect the values of Rivers State,” the statement read.

Wike further alleged that Governor Fubara orchestrated the walkout to stir political unrest, accusing him of hypocrisy in his calls for peace while allegedly promoting actions that contradict reconciliation efforts.

He challenged Fubara to be transparent in his dealings with President Tinubu and urged him to match words with actions. “You cannot be pleading for peace on one hand and inciting disrespect on the other. True peace requires honesty and integrity,” Wike stated.

He reiterated that such political manoeuvres will not bring lasting peace to Rivers State and emphasized the need for responsible leadership.
