The appeal was made during a courtesy visit to the governor on Friday as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. The delegation included Islamic clerics and leaders of the Arewa community in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Uhor thanked the governor for his inclusive leadership and for granting them the audience to present their requests.

“We appreciate the opportunity to engage with the government. We respectfully appeal for the establishment of a central mosque in Port Harcourt, the return of the Muslim cemetery section to the council, and allocation of land for a mosque within Rivers State University,” he said.

Governor Fubara responded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents, regardless of religious or ethnic background. He emphasized that everyone living in Rivers State should be considered a stakeholder in the state’s development.

“Anyone who lives, works, and contributes to the growth of Rivers is, in essence, an indigene of the state, regardless of origin. Because you have made this place your home, it is the responsibility of government to ensure your safety and protect your interests,” the governor stated.

He also commended the Muslim faithful for their discipline and devotion throughout the Ramadan period. On issues concerning farmer-herder tensions, Fubara noted that the state has maintained relative peace through proactive engagement and coordination with security agencies.

The governor urged religious leaders to continue promoting peace and responsible conduct among their followers.

“As leaders, you have a duty to guide your people and ensure they conduct themselves in ways that foster harmony in our communities,” he added.

Fubara assured the delegation that their requests would be carefully considered and addressed based on available resources and government priorities.

The underlying lawsuit, filed under case number FHC/ABJ/CS/1819/2025 by former ADC Deputy Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, disputes the party’s current national leadership. The named respondents include the ADC, Senator David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Ralph Nwosu.

  • Most respondents, with the exception of Senator David Mark and INEC, requested that Justice Lifu recuse himself, transfer the case, or pause proceedings, citing concerns of bias.

  • Nkemakolam Ukandu, the ADC National Welfare Secretary, sought to be joined in the suit and backed the push for the judge’s recusal.

  • Counsel for Ukandu pointed to petitions lodged with the National Judicial Council (NJC) and a separate lawsuit involving both Justice Lifu and Chief Judge Justice John Tsoho.

  • Robert Emukpero, SAN, representing Gombe, asked the court to reject these applications, asserting that the claims of bias lack evidence.

Following these presentations, Justice Lifu announced that his decision on whether to remain on the case or step down will be delivered on June 16.

On Monday, June 8, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to re-arraign three high-ranking National Assembly officials at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jikwoyi, Abuja, regarding a ₦337.06 million fraud case.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The defendants in this 23-count case, which includes allegations of conspiracy, forgery, criminal breach of trust, and official corruption, are:

  • Aishatu Bappa El-Nafaty: Director of Public Affairs in the Directorate of Special Duties and Parliamentary Security.

  • Mahmud Alhaji Abubakar: A former Permanent Secretary at the National Assembly.

  • Igba Ityoakura Joseph: A Deputy Director of Procurement.

The re-arraignment was stalled by legal challenges:

  • Counsel for the second defendant, Muhammed Ndayako (SAN), filed a preliminary objection seeking to strike out six counts (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 18), claiming these charges were previously dismissed by the court on May 12, 2025.

  • The EFCC counsel, Francis Usani, opposed this move, labeling the objection as a “frivolous” attempt to delay the proceedings, as it was filed on short notice.

  • The first defendant also signaled her intention to file a similar objection.

According to the amended charges involving actions between 2017 and 2019, Aishatu Bappa El-Nafaty is accused of dishonestly converting ₦89.87 million from National Assembly accounts into her personal account and forging receipts from Fazah Integrated Services Limited.

Justice Muhammed Zubairu has ordered the first defendant to file her objection within 48 hours and adjourned the case until September 23, 2026, for a hearing on the preliminary objections.
