The Lagos State Government has officially announced a traffic diversion due to emergency repairs on the Eko Bridge, managed by the Federal Ministry of Works. This essential repair work is set to begin on Monday, September 16, 2024, and will last for eight weeks.
State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, shared details in a statement released on Friday. He mentioned that the repairs will be conducted in four phases, leading to intermittent full or partial closures of the bridge, depending on the work schedule.
To help alleviate traffic congestion during this period, alternative routes have been provided for motorists. Here are the recommended detours:
- From Funsho Williams Avenue to the Island:
- Use the service lane at Alaka to connect to Costain and access the Eko Bridge.
- Alternatively, take the route through Costain to reach Eko Bridge, then continue towards Apongbon for further travel.
- For Accessing Apongbon:
- Motorists can connect from Eko Bridge to Costain and then back to Funsho Williams Avenue.
- Additionally, motorists may use Costain towards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or take Apapa Road from Costain to link with Oyingbo, leading to Adekunle and eventually connecting to the Third Mainland Bridge.
- For Destinations in Surulere:
- Travelers can utilize Costain to access Breweries towards Abebe Village, connecting to Eric Moore/Bode Thomas to reach their destinations.
In response to potential travel delays, the commissioner assured the public that officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed at the rehabilitation areas and along the alternative routes. Their presence aims to minimize inconvenience for motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow during the repairs.
