As confirmed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the traffic diversion will affect areas from Adeniji through Falomo, including Bourdillon and Queens Drive. The repair work is scheduled to commence on Monday, May 13, 2024, and is expected to conclude on November 7, 2024.

To manage the traffic implications effectively, the repair works will be conducted in phases. Phase 1 will focus on the stretch from Glover Road Junction on Alfred Rewane Road to Falomo Roundabout. During this phase, the road segment from Glover Junction to Falomo Roundabout will be closed to traffic.

Motorists traveling on Alfred Rewane Road towards Falomo Roundabout will be required to turn left at Glover Road Junction onto Thompson Avenue to access Falomo Bridge through Bourdillon Road. Meanwhile, the opposite side of the road, heading towards the Mainland, will remain open to traffic.

The commissioner emphasized the importance of patience among drivers during the partial closure, highlighting its integral role in the traffic management plan devised by the Federal Ministry of Works to repair the affected road segments.

In a related development, the Lagos State Government has extended a call to Lagosians affected by the ongoing demolition of houses in certain parts of the state to apply for compensation. The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, assured affected residents that each application would be assessed on a case-by-case basis, demonstrating the government’s empathy towards those affected.

Wahab emphasized that compensations are rights-based and urged affected individuals to submit their applications for consideration. He reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing climate change challenges while ensuring the welfare of its citizens.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing road repairs and demolition exercises, the Lagos State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to implementing necessary measures for the safety and well-being of all residents.
