Trial of Chidinma Ojukwu for Usifo Ataga’s Murder Resumes on October 15, 2024....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The High Court at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos State is set to resume the trial of Chidinma Ojukwu on October 15, 2024. Ojukwu faces charges for the murder of Usifo Ataga, the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV. Alongside her are her sister, Chioma Egbuchu, and an associate, Adedapo Quadri, who are also implicated in the case.
The three individuals were arraigned by the Lagos State Government on October 12, 2021. Ojukwu and Quadri are charged with multiple counts, including conspiracy, murder, and stabbing. Egbuchu faces a separate charge of stealing an iPhone 7 belonging to the late Ataga.
During the trial, Dr. Richard Somiari, a Director and Consultant at the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, testified that a DNA blood sample found on Ojukwu’s red dress matched that of Ataga. Dr. Somiari, who has over 15 years of experience in forensic analysis and has conducted more than 500 tests, provided this critical evidence in April during the court proceedings.
The forensic expert explained that his office received 21 different items for testing, including the stained dress, an army green T-shirt, and various DNA samples. His goal was to create a comprehensive evidence triangle linking Ojukwu to the crime scene and the victim. While the DNA found on the red dress matched Ataga’s, it did not match that of Ojukwu or the other accused suspects, Babalola Disu and Oluwatomi Dada.
Furthermore, Somiari discussed the toxicology reports and clarified that they were submitted to the Attorney-General of Lagos, the Commissioner of Police, and the Director of Public Prosecutions. However, he noted that not all forensic reports followed this protocol.
In a recent session, defense counsel Egwu requested to play a video of the crime scene, which the court granted. While the video was shown, questions arose regarding the blood samples found on various surfaces, including a duvet and a white polo shirt worn by the victim. Somiari confirmed that those samples were not submitted for testing, stating that the markers referenced in his report were unrelated to the video evidence.

He is currently in possession of the official Certificate of Return, which is intended for presentation to Jonathan.

Given Jonathan’s track record of “credible transformation” during his tenure, Agbedi argued that citizens should support the PDP’s efforts to nominate him as a solution to Nigeria’s current challenges.
-
Emphasizing the spirit of national service, Agbedi questioned the opposition to Jonathan’s potential return, asking where else a dedicated leader should serve if not for the betterment of his own country.
-
He confirmed that should Jonathan choose to run, it would be under the banner of the PDP.
