Lagos Coroner’s Court Threatens Action Against Absent Witnesses in Mohbad’s Death Inquest....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Lagos Coroner’s Court, under the leadership of Magistrate T.A. Sotobi, has issued a strong warning to witnesses who have failed to appear in the ongoing inquest into the death of popular singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. If these witnesses continue to disregard court summonses, the court may take steps to compel their testimony.

During a recent court session, the court granted permission for Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to serve witness summonses through various means, including newspaper and social media notices. Key figures expected to testify include notable personalities such as Azeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley; Samson Eletu, also called Sam Larry; Mohbad’s sister-in-law, Karimot Ogunbayo; his lawyer, Oluwasanmi Falade; the nurse who reportedly treated Mohbad before his death, Feyisayo Ogedengbe; and the driver who transported him to the hospital, Fidelis Esanbor.

According to Taiwo Odumosu, head of the Aloba family’s legal team, only one key witness, Boluwatife Adeyemo, also known as Darosha, attended the court session on Wednesday. After the trial, Odumosu revealed that the magistrate is considering issuing subpoenas for the absent witnesses if they fail to appear at the next court sitting.

“The purpose of today’s hearing was to continue examining witnesses to determine the circumstances of Mohbad’s death. Among all the key witnesses invited and served through alternate means, only Darosha was present,” Odumosu stated. He further noted that the magistrate expressed her intent to issue one final witness summons and warned that those who do not comply by the next scheduled hearing will face subpoenas.

The court has adjourned the hearing until September 30, as the investigation into Mohbad’s death continues. The singer tragically passed away at the young age of 27 on September 12, 2023, with the circumstances surrounding his death generating significant controversy and discussion on social media.

In a poignant moment outside the court, Mohbad’s mother, Abosede, called for internal resolution within the family concerning the ongoing crisis. She emphasized the need for peace and reflection, stating, “I don’t want anybody to do anything, and what his father says should be regarded as the final decision. I don’t want anybody to do anything. What I want is for them to go to church and mosque to pray for him.”

Abosede expressed her desire for the family to resolve the matter privately, indicating that the ongoing public scrutiny and actions were not conducive to their healing. “This is because everything people are doing does not make sense. They did not make us (the family) happy. The mother and the father are not happy. We beg them (the government) in the name of God to let us be and allow our family to settle this case.”
