Enugu State Government Issues Strong Warning Against Sale of Dead Animals by Butchers and Poultry Farmers....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Enugu State Government has delivered a firm warning to butchers and poultry farmers, instructing them to stop the sale of animals and chickens that have died from unknown causes. This directive follows a joint statement released on Tuesday by the Commissioners for Health and Agriculture, Prof. Ikechukwu Obi and Mr. Patrick Ubru, in which they threatened strict sanctions against anyone involved in the unhealthy practice.

The government’s action comes after reports from concerned members of the public that animals, including those affected by flu and other diseases, were being sold in meat markets. In response, the state has activated its public health, veterinary, and disease surveillance departments to investigate the alarming claims.

The commissioners emphasized that selling such meat is not only unacceptable but also carries significant health risks. “Consuming dead animals can have serious health implications,” they stated, noting that the public should be cautious.

Serious Health Risks and Sanctions for Offenders

Health experts have long warned about the dangers of eating animals that died from unknown causes. These animals can carry zoonotic diseases—diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans, posing severe risks to public health.

To prevent the spread of such diseases, state health officers have begun inspecting livestock farms and abattoirs. The government assured that any offenders caught selling dead animals will face serious legal consequences. “The sale of animals that died of unknown causes outside the normal methods of preparation is a grave offense. It poses serious health risks and can trigger zoonotic diseases,” the statement emphasized.

Public Urged to Stay Vigilant

The Enugu State Government has urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities related to the sale of dead animals. Officials are concerned that such illegal practices could lead to widespread health issues or even epidemics with potentially disastrous consequences.

To encourage the public’s participation, the government has provided hotlines for reporting such activities: 08037178703, 08066865511, 08037431577, and 08033375344.

The Adidas Azteca ball brought in $3.3m via Heritage Auctions on Saturday, which fell short of the estimated £7.3m ($10m) projection from experts.

Key details of the historic item and match include:

  • The Match: The ball was in play for the entirety of Argentina’s 2-1 quarter-final victory against England at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

  • The Infamous Goal: Maradona scored both of Argentina’s goals, with his first involving him punching the ball past England goalkeeper Peter Shilton—an infraction missed by the referee. Post-match, Maradona famously attributed it to “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God”.

  • Goal of the Century: Minutes later, the Argentina captain scored a legendary solo goal, weaving past five outfield players and rounding Shilton.

  • Prior Ownership: The ball was kept for over three decades by Tunisian referee Ali Bin Nasser, who officiated the match. He initially sold it in 2022 for £1.74m ($2.37m), though a subsequent attempt to sell it in 2023 did not meet the reserve price.

  • Related Memorabilia: This auction follows the 2022 sale of Maradona’s Argentina shirt from the same match, which fetched £7.1m.
