Peter Obi Condemns Tribal Division After Viral Video Threat from Canadian-Based Nigerian....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed his dismay over the divisive comments made by Amaka Patience Sunnberger, a Nigerian woman living in Canada, who threatened to poison Yoruba and Benin people in a now-viral video. Following his condemnation of her remarks, Obi reported receiving a “barrage of reactions,” with some attempting to justify her actions.

In his statements on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Obi condemned the tribal and religious divisions highlighted by Sunnberger’s comments. He noted that while some reactions attempted to explain her statements as a response to prior hateful remarks aimed at the Igbo community, he condemned these earlier comments as well.

“Following my recent comment on the Nigerian woman living in Canada, who made very distasteful comments against her fellow Nigerians in Canada, I have received a barrage of reactions from people, many of whom tried to justify their actions,” Obi stated. He emphasized the need for unity among Nigerians, saying, “Such divisive and hateful comments and behaviours against one another should have no place among us.”

Obi reiterated that the nation must focus on addressing the critical challenges it faces, such as insecurity, high living costs, and leadership failures, rather than allowing tribal and religious tensions to escalate. “We must remain one united nation, focused on solving the myriad of challenges facing us,” he urged.

The Igbo community in Canada also addressed the situation, warning against the spread of false information related to Sunnberger’s threats. In a statement issued by community member Joseph Eze, they urged Igbos in Canada and abroad to refrain from inflammatory remarks that could worsen the situation, especially since Canadian authorities have taken over the investigation.

Eze confirmed that Sunnberger was briefly arrested by the Toronto Police Service on Sunday for questioning but was released the same day. The case is currently pending in court. As this situation unfolds, both Obi and the Igbo community emphasize the importance of maintaining peace and unity among Nigerians.

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
