Imo Police Link Finland-Based Agitator Simon Ekpa to Deadly Attack on Local Government....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The Imo State Police Command has connected Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based Biafra agitator, to a recent attack on the Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area headquarters, where two local vigilante members were killed. This alarming incident, which occurred on Tuesday night, has escalated tensions in the region.
According to reports, the gunmen stormed the local government headquarters around 8:30 p.m., opening fire indiscriminately. In the process, two vigilante members who were guarding the premises were fatally shot. The attackers also set several vehicles on fire and partially destroyed the council building.
Imo State Police Command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, confirmed to SaharaReporters that the attack might be linked to a recent threat issued by Simon Ekpa, a self-proclaimed leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Ekpa had recently issued a one-month sit-at-home order, warning of imminent attacks on government facilities and infrastructure.
“Hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN attacked the Isiala-Mbano Local Government headquarters, firing sporadically. We were aware of the threat and had deployed operatives alongside local vigilantes who fought bravely,” Okoye stated.
During the gunfight between the police, local vigilantes, and the assailants, two vigilantes were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. “As of now, I cannot confirm whether they are still alive or dead, but they were responding to treatment yesterday,” Okoye added.
The attackers reportedly used locally made petrol bombs to set the parked vehicles ablaze before fleeing the scene. The police have since restored order in the area and are intensifying efforts to apprehend those responsible for the crime.
Okoye further emphasized the need for cooperation from the local community to combat these criminal activities. “These criminals are not ghosts; they live among us in the communities. We need the support and cooperation of the people of Imo State to bring them to justice,” he urged.

Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, has rejected assertions that he is breaching a zoning agreement that would supposedly limit Ebonyi North senators to one term. Speaking to the press in Abakaliki on Sunday, the Senator pointed to the precedent set by former Governor Sam Egwu, who successfully served two terms in the Senate, to argue that the alleged one-term policy lacks binding authority. Highlighting his own constituency initiatives and record, Nwebonyi stated he faces no serious competition for his seat and emphasized that public service should be defined by sacrifice rather than personal gain.
Additionally, the Senator expressed strong support for the APC’s prospects in Ebonyi State and lauded President Bola Tinubu for prioritizing infrastructure development in the South-East. He further praised Governor Francis Nwifuru as a unifying leader, dismissing rumors of friction within the Izzi clan and calling on stakeholders to prioritize the state’s collective development over divisive politics.

The festivities, which began after 2 p.m. at the Emirates Stadium, wound through Highbury, Canonbury, and Upper Street before concluding back at the stadium. This parade honored a league victory confirmed on May 19, ending a 22-year championship drought. During the event, fans were seen climbing trees and rooftops to see Mikel Arteta’s squad as the players showcased the Premier League trophy. The procession included four buses, one of which carried the Arsenal Women’s team, winners of the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup this past February.
This celebration followed a heartbreaking 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on Saturday, where Arsenal ultimately fell in a penalty shootout after misses by Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhaes. Despite the European defeat, the Premier League title held immense significance for the team, coming after three consecutive seasons as runners-up. Reflecting on the massive turnout, journalist Matt Graveling described the celebration as the largest sporting event he had witnessed in his 15-year career.
