Police in Jigawa State successfully rescued a suspected motorcycle thief from an enraged mob in Kazaure Local Government Area on Tuesday. The incident occurred in the Shaiskawa quarters, where local residents had reportedly set a trap to catch the thief due to a string of recent thefts in the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect, identified as Ibrahim Sadik, was apprehended by the community while attempting to steal a motorcycle. The enraged youths in the area reacted by severely beating the suspect before police intervened.
The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in a statement to DAILY POST. He detailed the events, saying, “On 30/08/2024 at about 2000hrs, information from a reliable source disclosed that a suspected motorcycle thief, Ibrahim Sadik, was apprehended at Shaiskawa Quarters in Kazaure LGA.”
Upon receiving the report, a police team from Kazaure quickly responded to the scene, rescuing the suspect from the mob. Sadik, who had sustained injuries from the beating, was immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
During interrogation, Sadik reportedly confessed to the crime, revealing that he had come to Kazaure town on market day with the intention of stealing a motorcycle.
Following his confession, the suspect was charged to court for prosecution. The police have urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to report criminal activities to the authorities for proper legal action.

A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Sunmonu Olasunkanmi Thaoban to four years in prison for laundering ₦16 million by disguising its illegal origins and converting it into a 2018 black G-Wagon Jeep.

Guilty Plea & Sentencing: Justice Akintayo Aluko handed down the sentence on Thursday after Thaoban pleaded guilty to a two-count EFCC charge, alongside an alternative fine option of ₦1.8 million.

The Offense: Prosecutors stated that Thaoban acted as a middleman in 2023, funneling illicit funds to purchase the luxury vehicle, violating the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

Asset Forfeiture: In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered the permanent forfeiture of both the convict’s G-Wagon and mobile phone to the Federal Government.

In a separate proceeding, Justice Aluko also convicted four Bureau de Change (BDC) operators—Umar Muhammad Lamido, Yusuf Musa Yusuf, Abdulmuhimin Mahmud, and Muhammed Musa—for conducting unauthorized foreign exchange transactions outside the official market. Following their guilty pleas, each received a 12-month prison sentence with an option of a ₦100,000 fine.
A Delta State High Court has handed down death sentences to two individuals for their involvement in the 2018 killing of Delta State University (DELSU) undergraduate Elozino Ogege, following a ruling that found them guilty. Meanwhile, a third co-defendant facing charges related to the same incident was discharged and acquitted.
