In the face of escalating insecurity in Niger State, North Central Nigeria, suspected bandits have issued a chilling ultimatum to residents of M.I Wushishi Estate in Minna, the state capital. The bandits, believed to be illegal miners, have threatened to kill the residents if they do not vacate the estate immediately.

The terrifying incident occurred in broad daylight when most male residents were away at work. According to reports from PUNCH, the assailants broke windows and damaged several cars during the invasion. The attackers allegedly struck in retaliation after residents reported the illegal mining activities in the community to the police.

One resident, who chose to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the situation, described the ordeal: “Hoodlums we suspect are miners in the neighborhood have asked all the residents of M.I Wushishi Housing Estate in Minna, the Niger State Capital to vacate their homes or get killed. These guys invaded the community in broad daylight, breaking window glasses. Several cars were also damaged.”

The resident further explained that the attack came after the community lodged complaints with the police about the illegal miners causing damage to their homes. The bandits reportedly followed through on their threats, targeting the estate when most men had left for work. This has led to widespread fear, with many residents, including top civil servants, fleeing their homes.

“I know of many people who have moved out of the estate this evening for fear of the attacks. Nowhere is safe in the state. If bandits and terrorists are not chasing people from their homes, it is hoodlums and miners. Where is the government for the sake of Allah?” the resident lamented.

The Niger State Police Command spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the attack but assured the public that peace had been restored to the estate. Despite this reassurance, the sense of insecurity persists, with many residents remaining on edge, uncertain of what the future holds.
