Two organizations, the Ambassador Peter Orobor Foundation (POF) and the Asue/Ogie Support Group Abuja, have announced plans to transport eligible voters from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to Edo State to cast their votes in the upcoming September 12 governorship election. The initiative was revealed by the President of POF, Dr. Peter Orobor, during the Abuja Mega Rally held on Friday to drum up support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Orobor disclosed that his team has compiled data on voters residing in Abuja, with over 5,000 individuals expressing their intention to travel to Edo to support Ighodalo. Orobor emphasized that this overwhelming support stems from Ighodalo’s developmental manifesto, which promises significant benefits for the people of Edo if he is elected governor.

“This forum is organized to galvanize support for the PDP candidate. We are here as representatives of various groups of Edo indigenes in Abuja to extend our solidarity. Our Permanent Voter Cards are for them,” Orobor stated. He further revealed that arrangements are being made to provide free transportation for all Edo indigenes in the FCT who wish to vote in the election.

During the rally, Dr. Aghughu Adophus, former Auditor General of the Federation, urged Edo indigenes to support credible candidates for the governorship position. He expressed concern over the use of poverty to manipulate youths into participating in activities they would later regret. Adophus also called on the electoral commission to ensure a fair and transparent election, warning that violence often results from perceived biases by the election umpire.

Adophus advised the youth to support Ighodalo, citing his plans for their future. “If the youths cast their votes and allow the best candidate to emerge devoid of thuggery, then the best governor will emerge for Edo,” he concluded.

The presidency, however, confirmed that President Talon is safe and that loyalist forces are restoring order. Authorities described the coup attempt as the work of “a small group” with limited reach, adding that the city and the country remain secure.

Regional bloc ECOWAS has condemned the attempted takeover, describing it as a serious and unacceptable challenge to the democratic will of the people. In a statement issued in Abuja, the Commission called for strict adherence to the country’s Constitution and praised the efforts of the government and the Republican Army in regaining control. ECOWAS warned that the plot’s leaders would be held accountable for any loss of life or property arising from their actions and reaffirmed its full support for Benin, including potential deployment of the regional standby force if necessary.

Separately, Atiku’s Senior Political Assistant, Olarenwaju, attributed the former Vice President’s actions against Jonathan in 2015 to a breach of a gentleman’s agreement. Speaking during an Space discussion titled “APC Must Go,” Olarenwaju explained that his alignment with Atiku was motivated by a broader vision for Nigeria’s progress. He said, “Most of the answers I’m going to give tonight are not just based on my deliberations with Atiku, they are based on my desire for a better Nigeria. At the end of the day, if Nigeria is better, my life is better and easier as a Nigerian. So I only find myself with Atiku; in 2015, I didn’t find myself with Atiku, I found myself on the side of Goodluck Jonathan.”
