Federal Polytechnic Ilaro Unveils Groundbreaking Electric Tricycle, Plans for Mini Assembly Plant....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Dr. Mukail Akinde, announced the institution’s ambitious plan to establish a mini assembly plant dedicated to producing its newly invented electric automated tricycle. This innovative vehicle, developed at the polytechnic’s innovation center, marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind in Nigeria.

Dr. Akinde urged the Federal Government and corporate entities, especially those in the manufacturing sector, to support the polytechnic’s efforts in scaling up to commercial production. He emphasized that successful commercialization would reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imports, alleviate pressure on foreign exchange, and create job opportunities for the nation’s youth.

During a recent visit by the Governing Council, led by Chairman Alhaji Garba Gashua, and representatives from the National Automotive Design and Development Council, the tricycle was showcased. The Rector highlighted the prototype’s features, which include seating for three people and a solar-powered charging panel. This innovation stands out from existing models by incorporating the ability to reverse, a feature not commonly found in other tricycles.

Dr. Akinde further explained the institution’s vision, stating, “Our goal is to bring this tricycle into commercial production. We are seeking partnerships with companies like Innoson to help us realize this dream. Without local production, we would be forced to import, further straining our foreign exchange resources. We aim to produce ten or more tricycles at our mini assembly plant by next season, with three units planned for use on our campus.”

The Governing Council’s Chairman, Alhaji Garba Gashua, expressed his pride in the polytechnic’s achievement, noting that most of the materials used were sourced locally. He encouraged the Federal Government to support the polytechnic in expanding its innovative efforts, which are critical for Nigeria’s industrial growth.

The Director of Vehicle Electrification at the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Mr. Ayinde Abdullahi, praised the initiative, noting that the Federal Government’s investment in raw materials companies would further enhance local automobile production.

Jide Soyemi, Director of the Innovation Centre, shared insights into the center’s establishment three years ago, which aims to equip students with cutting-edge skills beyond the standard curriculum. The center focuses on emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, robotics, drone development, and portable inverters for small businesses. The electric tricycle represents the latest success, with students contributing over 80% to its development.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has adjusted its gantry price for Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), lowering it from ₦1,275 to ₦1,250 per litre, marking a two per cent reduction. This price shift is attributed to a decline in international crude oil prices, which serve as the refinery’s primary feedstock.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    An official from the refinery noted that such adjustments are expected in a deregulated market and emphasized that the company will continue to calibrate prices based on evolving market conditions. Despite this move, current retail prices at many filling stations across Nigeria remain above ₦1,350 per litre, with costs varying by location and marketer.Beyond pricing, the refinery has been credited as a key driver of Nigeria’s improving economic outlook. S&P Global Ratings recently upgraded the country’s long-term foreign- and local-currency sovereign credit ratings from “B-” to “B,” citing factors such as stronger economic growth, increased oil production, and improved external balances. S&P specifically highlighted the operational ramp-up of the Dangote refinery’s 650,000-barrel-per-day facility as a significant contributor to the nation’s enhanced balance-of-payments position and overall economic resilience.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

A political war of words has erupted between former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The friction began when Kwankwaso, speaking at his Kano residence, insisted that prominent politicians—including Ganduje—owe their political rise to his mentorship and cannot deny their past loyalty to him. Ganduje, currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, responded through his chief of staff, Muhammad Garba, by asserting that Kwankwaso was actually his own protégé. Ganduje highlighted his role in Kwankwaso’s early career, including his support during Kwankwaso’s rise to the House of Representatives and his decision to step down as a gubernatorial candidate in 1998 to serve as Kwankwaso’s deputy.
