During a ceremony held on Monday at the Government House in Maiduguri, Zulum presented cheques to selected health facilities representing each of the state’s three senatorial zones. The governor emphasized the importance of dedication among facility managers and coordinators, urging them to ensure that the funds are utilized effectively to provide top-quality healthcare services.
“Healthcare is a shared responsibility. As we invest in our healthcare infrastructure, I call upon our health workers, community leaders, and all stakeholders to collaborate in maximizing the impact of these funds,” Zulum stated, highlighting the collective effort required to achieve the desired outcomes.
In addition to the financial support, Zulum directed the 27 local government chairpersons to take active roles in managing the primary healthcare centres within their jurisdictions. He stressed the importance of collaboration between local authorities and the state government to fill any existing gaps in the healthcare system.
“Henceforth, all the local government chairpersons should take charge of the primary healthcare facilities in their domains. Where gaps exist, I want to assure you that we will complement each other to ensure our people receive the best care,” Zulum added, reinforcing his commitment to ensuring optimal healthcare delivery across Borno State.
Governor Zulum also tasked the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and the Borno State Contributory Health Management Agency with transparently reporting all funds allocated to the primary healthcare centres in each local government area. This move is part of a broader plan to rehabilitate all primary healthcare centres throughout the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba Gana, expressed gratitude for Zulum’s unwavering commitment to enhancing healthcare services in Borno. He noted that the disbursement aligns with the governor’s broader vision of ensuring that every resident of Borno has access to quality healthcare.
“This occasion marks an important milestone in our collective efforts to ensure that every person in our state has access to quality healthcare services. His Excellency has graciously approved the fund amounting to N209,819,306 only for the two BHCPF gateways (BOSPHCDB & BOSCHMA). This is a testament to our determination to improve the healthcare system in Borno State. These resources will go a long way in enhancing our primary and secondary healthcare facilities, enabling us to provide essential services that cater to the needs of our communities,” Prof. Gana remarked.
Governor Zulum’s bold initiative is expected to significantly impact the healthcare landscape in Borno State, providing much-needed resources to improve the services offered at primary healthcare centres. As these funds are deployed, the collaboration between state and local authorities will be crucial in ensuring that every resident benefits from improved healthcare access and quality.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that the FCT University of Science and Technology in Abaji will begin operations during President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Wike made the revelation on Tuesday while on a thank-you tour of Abaji Area Council, appreciating residents for supporting Tinubu’s candidates in the February 21 FCT area council elections.
He noted that the FCT Administration is already putting in place the necessary infrastructure and essential facilities to ensure the university’s successful launch.
Wike urged the community to remain patient, assuring that the university would become a reality within Tinubu’s tenure.
“From our discussions, it is clear how significant this university is, not only for the people of Abaji but for all FCT residents. It will create jobs and drive development in the community. I would be honored to officially open the university for operations,” he said.
The minister emphasized that his visit was to thank residents for keeping their promise to support the President, highlighting the importance of acknowledging positive deeds.
Describing politics as a reciprocal process, Wike stressed that the era of empty promises was over:
“Leaders must demonstrate their commitment to delivering good governance. You cannot make promises during elections and vanish afterward without fulfilling them. We asked you to support Tinubu, starting with the area council elections. On February 21, you came through, delivering 133 of the 135 polling units in the council for Tinubu. What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.
Wike also praised the outgoing Abaji Area Council Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, describing him as a humble and dedicated leader.
