Femi Falana Responds to Police Invitation for Joe Ajaero: “Prior Engagement Prevents Attendance”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Femi Falana, the legal representative of Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), announced that Ajaero cannot attend the Nigeria Police Force’s questioning due to a prior engagement. This invitation comes amid serious allegations against Ajaero, including terrorism financing, treasonable felony, cybercrime, and related offenses.
On August 19, the police sent an invitation letter signed by ACP Adamu Muazu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team. The letter warned that failure to appear for interrogation on August 20 could result in a warrant for Ajaero’s arrest.
In response, Falana submitted a letter on August 20, stating that Ajaero is unavailable on the requested date but is prepared to honor the invitation on August 29, 2024. The letter clearly stated, “We are Solicitors to the Nigeria Labour Congress and its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, on whose behalf we write this letter in respect of the above subject matter.”
The correspondence highlighted that Ajaero received the police invitation only the day prior, which conflicted with a previously scheduled engagement. Falana emphasized, “Comrade Ajaero is prepared for your interview on Wednesday, August 29, 2024.”
Furthermore, Falana invoked Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution, seeking clarity on the allegations against Ajaero. The letter included a request for the specifics of the charges, stating, “Comrade Ajaero requests for the details and nature of the allegations of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime levelled against him.
