The charges were leveled by Mr. Adamu Omadefu, Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, during a recent plenary session in Lafia. The motion of public importance was introduced by Daniel Ogah Ogazi (APC, Kokona East).
Ogazi raised alarm over the suspected collusion between ministry officials and illegal miners, asserting that these activities are conducted with their tacit approval.
Omadefu (APC, Keana) voiced deep concern over the situation, urging a unified effort from all stakeholders to combat illegal mining in Nasarawa State.
Musa Ibrahim, former Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources and current representative of Doma South Constituency, added that such mining operations would be impossible without the awareness of officials. Ibrahim claimed that both government officials and community leaders are allegedly being bribed with U.S. dollars to facilitate these illicit activities.
Mr. Onarigu Onah Kana (SDP, Loko/Udege) supported these claims, highlighting that traditional rulers are also believed to be involved in perpetuating the illegal mining crisis in the state.

Additionally, the accused admitted to being members of Darul Salam, an organization linked to the banned terrorist group Ansaru.
During the proceedings, two of the defendants—Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsudin Adamu—further confessed to utilizing a WhatsApp group named “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to train and incite members toward acts of terrorism. Furthermore, Abdulrazak Umar pleaded guilty to a separate charge of conducting unauthorized illegal gold mining activities along streams in the Chaza area located within Niger State’s Suleja Local Government Area.
