A community in Nasarawa State is reeling from a devastating attack as a primary school teacher, Yakubu Mohammed, was fatally shot by gunmen suspected to be bandits. The tragic incident occurred in the Lokogoma community, Gadabuke District, within the Toto Local Government Area, during the early hours of Friday.
According to reports, the assailants not only claimed the life of Yakubu Mohammed but also abducted two of his children. The attack, which took place around midnight, also led to the kidnapping of seven other residents, including two women, further deepening the community’s anguish.
During the harrowing ordeal, a woman sustained bullet injuries, adding to the trauma experienced by the affected families and residents.
The state police public relations officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on Tuesday. He assured the public that an investigation is underway and that efforts are being made to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators. “It’s true the incident happened and investigation has been launched. Effort is ongoing to rescue the victims and arrest the culprits,” Nansel stated.

Additionally, the accused admitted to being members of Darul Salam, an organization linked to the banned terrorist group Ansaru.
During the proceedings, two of the defendants—Abdulrazak Umar and Shamsudin Adamu—further confessed to utilizing a WhatsApp group named “The Oneness of Allah is the Foundation of Peace” to train and incite members toward acts of terrorism. Furthermore, Abdulrazak Umar pleaded guilty to a separate charge of conducting unauthorized illegal gold mining activities along streams in the Chaza area located within Niger State’s Suleja Local Government Area.
