A tragic incident in Jigawa State has left the community in shock, as a tea vendor named Abdulrashidu Ya’u is accused of killing a 20-year-old man, Hassan Garba, over allegations of stealing bread, milk, noodles, and petrol. This violent act, which has raised serious concerns about community safety, took place on August 19, 2024, around 5:00 AM in Sararai village, located in the Dutse Local Government Area.

According to DSP Lawan Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Command, law enforcement responded quickly to the scene after receiving a report of the incident. A standby patrol team apprehended the suspect and rushed the victim to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for urgent medical care. Tragically, upon arrival, medical personnel pronounced Hassan Garba dead. His remains were subsequently examined, photographed, and released to his relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.

During an interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, the suspect admitted that he had been provoked by the deceased’s repeated thefts, leading him to inform his parents about the situation. In a shocking turn of events, Ya’u confessed to binding Hassan with a rope and whipping him in secret as punishment. Neighbors reportedly heard the victim’s desperate cries for help but were unable to intervene before the police arrived.

DSP Adam emphasized that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and once completed, Abdulrashidu Ya’u will face the full force of the law.
