In 2023, the government had accessed N2.94 trillion from the CBN, showcasing a proactive approach to financial management.

Investor Attraction and Economic Stability The government’s financial instruments, particularly NTBs and Bonds, have witnessed heightened demand from investors, propelled by the CBN’s appealing interest rates and robust defense of the naira. Minister Edun emphasized the substantial interest payout anticipated, with the CBN incurring approximately N1.01 trillion.

The first quarter of 2024 witnessed a surge in subscription for government securities, reaching N21.17 trillion, signaling a resurgence in investor confidence and the appetite for Nigerian financial assets.

Fiscal Management and External Debt Servicing The Ways and Means provision, a financial mechanism permitting short-term funding from the CBN, was heavily utilized, with the National Assembly authorizing N22.7 trillion of such advances. This fiscal strategy is part of Nigeria’s broader efforts to manage cash shortfalls and external debt obligations effectively.

The rise in external debt servicing, as reported by the Debt Management Office, underscores the government’s dedication to fulfilling its international financial commitments.
