The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has amassed a substantial sum of N259 million from the sale of Nomination and Expression of Interest forms to seven gubernatorial aspirants in Ondo State, setting the stage for the forthcoming gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16, 2024…….READ ALSO

The financial boost for the party was realized through its structured sale of forms, which commenced on March 7 and concluded on March 21. According to the PDP’s guidelines, the Nomination Form was priced at N30 million, while the Expression of Interest Form was set at N5 million. Additional fees, including a Party Rebranding Fee and Secretariat Charges, each amounted to N1 million.

In a move toward inclusivity, the PDP waived the Expression of Interest Form fee for female candidates and those with disabilities, underscoring the party’s commitment to representative governance.

Aspirants were required to procure and return the forms by March 25, in preparation for the party’s electoral processes. The PDP has slated April 25, 2024, for its congress to select the gubernatorial candidate through an indirect primary method, a pivotal step in its readiness for the Ondo State gubernatorial race.

The collection of forms and payments took place at the PDP’s national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja, where seven aspirants, including notable figures such as former Ondo State Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi and former commissioner Olusola Ebiseni, acquired the N35 million forms, along with fulfilling the additional N2 million in charges.

The adoption of the indirect primary method by the PDP for selecting its candidate underscores the party’s commitment to inclusivity and democratic processes. The decision involves the election of delegates at ward and local government levels, who will subsequently participate in choosing the party’s candidate.

Meanwhile, gubernatorial aspirants Bosun Arebuwa and Kolade Akinjo have emphasized the importance of unity and service to the people, urging fellow aspirants to view securing the party’s ticket as a means to rescue Ondo State from alleged mismanagement by the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Arebuwa and Akinjo reiterated their dedication to serving the people and restoring the state’s prosperity, emphasizing that their goals transcend personal ambitions and are rooted in providing effective governance and alternatives to current challenges.
