Ajetunmobi emphasized the importance of preventing foodborne illnesses by upholding food safety standards, stating, “Prevention is better and cheaper than cure.” He highlighted concerns about food poisoning and other sharp practices among food business operators in the state.

The ban on styrofoam usage is part of the government’s efforts to promote wholesome food consumption and protect public health. The task force will work to raise awareness among food industry stakeholders and enforce compliance with the ban.

Afusat Akande, the director of food, water, and laboratory services, outlined the criteria for obtaining certification in the food supply chain, including medical fitness certificates, routine fumigation of production facilities, and water quality assessments.

The permanent secretary and head of the task force, Akintunde Ayinde, expressed readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to achieve the government’s goal of ensuring food safety in the state.

The task force comprises individuals from various organizations, including the state Food Safety Management Committee, the Nigeria Police Force, and associations representing table water producers and canteen workers.

The ban on styrofoam usage in Oyo State aligns with similar measures implemented in other states, such as Lagos and Abia, aimed at reducing environmental pollution and protecting public health.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.
